A painter’s read on Hollywood
Hollywood is one of Broward’s older cities, and it hires a painter accordingly. Joseph Young began laying it out in the early 1920s as a planned resort town on the City Beautiful model, and that history still shows: a walkable downtown around Young Circle, 1920s bungalows and Mediterranean style homes, a long beach promenade called the Broadwalk, and newer subdivisions filling in behind them. For a repaint, that means two things decide the job here, the age and condition of the surface in front of you, and how close it sits to the Atlantic.
This page is the buyer’s guide: the kinds of homes you will find across the city, what salt air and older stucco change, the approvals that come with beach towers and gated inland communities, and a short summary of the work itself. For the coat by coat process, follow the service links below, and for how the rest of the county compares, see our Broward County overview.
Beach towers and the homes near the sand
East of the Intracoastal, Hollywood is condos and homes packed close to the ocean, from the towers overlooking the Broadwalk to the smaller streets behind the beach. Salt spray is the deciding factor here. It settles on walls, dulls the finish and works into railings, gate hardware and light fixtures until they rust. A crew that skips the wash down and paints metal without the right primer leaves you with streaks and bleed within a season.
We treat the ocean facing side of a property as its own job: harder pressure cleaning, time to dry fully, mildew treated on the shaded walls, and a rust blocking primer on bare metal before any color. On condo work, we plan around the building’s elevator, dock and posted hours, and keep hallways and walkways clean and open while we go.
Inland: the Lakes, Emerald Hills and the Hills
Cross back over the waterway and the city settles into neighborhoods, each with its own feel and its own prep:
- Hollywood Lakes, quiet streets near North Lake and South Lake just east of downtown, with a mix of 1920s homes and later infill that rewards patient trim work.
- Emerald Hills, built up around its golf course from roughly 1970, where larger lots and long elevations ask for clean masking and extra drying time.
- Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills, mid century single family homes on established streets where older stucco often needs crack repair and a bonding primer first.
- Boulevard Heights, Driftwood and Oakridge, family subdivisions and townhomes where tight setbacks, shared walls and gate access shape the schedule more than the color does.
Which bucket your home falls into, and how much repair the surface needs, is something we settle when we walk it, and that read shapes a large part of the quote.
Getting colors and paperwork approved
Approvals come up across Hollywood in different forms. The beach condo towers run their work through building management and a board. Gated inland communities keep an approved palette and a review committee. And the historic feel of downtown and Hollywood Lakes means neighbors notice when a color lands wrong. We build that step into the job rather than hand it to you: real samples up on your own wall so you can judge them in local daylight, the swatches and product sheets reviewers want gathered up, and the packet submitted early enough that the yes is sitting in your file before we open a can.
Interior, exterior and pressure washing in Hollywood, in brief
Most Hollywood work falls under one of three services, and each has a dedicated page with the full detail:
- Interior painting: repaints room by room or whole home, accent and two tone walls, ceilings, trim and doors, dated interior stucco knocked flat, with color help if you ask for it.
- Exterior painting: stucco recoated or removed, crack repair, trim and gable work, topped with finishes chosen for strong sun, salt and the long wet season.
- Pressure washing: usually the first move before an exterior repaint, and a service on its own for driveways, pavers, pool decks and fences.
Whichever you book, we cover floors, furniture and plants, tell you straight if a color or a surface will not work out, and leave the job open until the owner signs off on it in person.
