The short answer: November through April
In South Florida, the dry season usually runs from about November to April. Humidity is lower, afternoon storms are rare and mornings are cooler. That makes it the easiest time to paint a house exterior in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach.
It is also the busiest time of year. Many homeowners, HOAs and property managers plan their exterior projects for the same months, so schedules fill up. If you want to paint in winter or spring, get your estimate early.
Can you paint during the rainy season?
Yes. Plenty of homes get painted between June and October, and the results are just as good when the work is planned right. The rainy season here has a pattern: mornings are usually clear and storms build in the afternoon. A crew that knows that pattern will:
- Start early and put finish coats on first thing.
- Watch the radar through the day, not just the morning forecast.
- Stop and protect fresh work if a storm shows up early, instead of rushing the last wall.
- Wait for surfaces to dry after a storm before painting again. Painting over damp stucco is one of the most common reasons paint fails.
If a crew tells you rain will never affect the schedule in August, that is a red flag. We would rather tell you straight that a day or two might move, and keep you posted when it does.
What about hurricane season?
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30. Most weeks in that window are normal working days, but if a storm is heading our way, exterior work stops and the site is secured. For big projects, like a full community repaint, build some flexibility into the timeline for those months.
Heat and direct sun
Summer heat is less of a problem than the rain, but it still matters. When a wall sits in full afternoon sun, paint can dry too fast, which leaves lap marks and uneven sheen. Good crews follow the shade: they paint the east side in the afternoon and the west side in the morning, so each wall gets painted when it is cooler.
Signs your exterior can’t wait for the dry season
Sometimes the calendar should not decide. If you see any of these, it is worth painting sooner rather than later:
- Cracks in the stucco that are letting water in
- Peeling or bubbling paint, especially around windows and doors
- Bare spots on trim, fascia or gables
- Chalky walls, where your hand comes away white after touching the paint
Waiting a few months with those problems usually means more repair work, and a bigger bill, when you finally paint. Pressure washing first will also show you what is just dirt and what is failing paint. Learn more about how we approach exterior painting and pressure washing.
